43. Go To School

*Sniff* The holiday is almost over, and what's worse, you're going to have to go back to school - But have no fear, come over to Mrs Marie's School of Joy! I mean, it's got joy in the name so it's got to be good and look at her:
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/5/53/Mrsmarie.png
So happy
And that's not all, people say that you can get the deeds to your own private island if you give her enough joy pendants (20 to be exact) - A young boy clad in green got the Cabana Deeds, making him the owner of the Private Oasis! You can find joy pendants easily from Bokoblins after you defeat them. (Wind Waker)
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/f/ff/Private_Oasis.jpg
Want
Or go over to Funday School, where the kids claim they never want to go home! And whilst we can't rule out brainwashing, we can rule in Kinstone fusing! And dopplegangers!
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/e/e4/Funday_School.png

Lunch! Revision! Sleeping!
 Challenges:
- Get a Piece of Heart from the Funday School garden
- Get the deeds to Private Oasis
- Get the Hero's charm from Mrs. Marie

Learn About the Weapons - Hammer

Sometimes this handy tool is simply referred to as a "Hammer". Its use has progressed from being a simple tool to an effective weapon. As the series matured, hammers have become more involved in interactive obstacles. The Magic Hammer of A Link to the Past debuts hammers as a weapon. Despite their name, these hammers do not require magic power to use them.

42. Learn Magic

Magic is a fundamental part of life, and a necessity for those everyday tasks such as, "how am I supposed to light all these sticks on fire, at the same time?" Impossible I hear you cry. Not if you use Din's Fire! All at once, giving you entry to the Shadow tower!

So where can I learn magic? Well you cannot simply learn magic, but it should come to you, being of Hylrulian descent!

Try these three out for size: (Ocarina of Time)

Din's Fire
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/c/cd/Din%27s_Fire.png
Creates a dome of fire which can kill, or at least seriously damage, any enemies surrounding Link. Use it on Dark Link!

Farore's Wind
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/0/04/Farore%27s_Wind.png
Creates a warp point to teleport to easily, use it to warp to a fairy fountain!

Nayru's Love
 http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/1/14/Nayru%27s_Love.png
Creates a barrier around Link to stop any damage taken, use against bosses!

How about some picolyte, each bottle will increase your luck in finding something!
Name of Item Purpose Selling Price
The Minish Cap - Blue Picolyte.png Blue Picolyte Helps in finding items 200
The Minish Cap - Green Picolyte.png Green Picolyte Helps in finding Mysterious Shells 100
The Minish Cap - Red Picolyte.png Red Picolyte Helps in finding Hearts. 100
The Minish Cap - Orange Picolyte.png Orange Picolyte Helps in finding Fairies 300
The Minish Cap - Yellow Picolyte.png Yellow Picolyte Helps in finding Rupees 200
The Minish Cap - White Picolyte.png White Picolyte Helps in finding Kinstones 100

Or grab some medallions for massive damage!

Ether Medallion

http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/6/69/Ether_Medallion.png
Ether attacks through the atmosphere, as flying enemies appear to be the most affected. Most enemies who aren't destroyed by the initial pulse of lightning and pressure are frozen, as if they were struck by the Ice Rod. Ether's atmosphere-altering capabilities can be used to clear the rain in Misery Mire.

Quake Medallion
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/e/e3/Quake_Medallion.png
As expected, Quake causes an Earthquake, resulting from Link thrusting the Master Sword into the ground below him. It only affects ground-bound enemies, generally either destroying them or turning them into weak Slime. Quake is needed to open the passage to Turtle Rock.

Bombos Medallion
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/4/43/Bombos_Medallion.png
With an enchanted Spin Attack, Link sends out a ring of fire followed by a series of small explosions in all directions. This causes all foes to become inflamed, as if they have been struck with the Fire Rod, and destroys all its targets. Additionally, fewer enemy types are immune.

Challenges:
- Get all of the medallions in A Link to the Past
- Get each type of arrow in Ocarina of Time
- Obtain the three spells in Ocarina of Time

41. Read up the Timeline

So you thought the series was simple, hm? Hero saves the Princess and it's tea and crumpets for everyone. Well have a look at this:
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/c/c1/ZeldatimelineHHtranslation.png
Your mind - blown.
That's right, it just broke the constraints of the website!

And basically, the timeline all depends on Ocarina of Time's Link. So no pressure when you play Ocarina or anything. But hey, at least if you die you can play the original game!

Challenge:
- Play through the timeline (on the games you own) and when you get to the final boss in Ocarina of Time you only have one try. Fail, and you have to play the games in the Hyrule's decent. Succeed and you get a choice of which path to follow (or flip a coin).

Know Your Enemy - Wallmaster

http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/7/75/MM_Wallmaster.png

Wallmasters are monstrous hands that hang from the walls and ceilings of dank areas and dungeons, attempting to grab Link. If they grab him, he is taken back to the beginning of the dungeon or the specific room. In its debut, the original The Legend of Zelda, the Wallmaster would come out of the walls to ambush Link on-screen, a trait that the foe has kept throughout the series.

Strategy: Avoid them as they drop by looking for the shadow, then attack whilst it's stalled. Also use a boomerang to freeze it.

40. Create Some Achievements

*Achievement Get - Looked at this post*

Let's be honest, if a Legend of Zelda game was made now, it would have achievements in it. Hang on, that's not right. if a Legend of Zelda game was made now, and not made by Nintendo, it would have achievements in it.
So let's make our own up shall we? I'll start:

Sunday, 26 August 2012

39. Take Some Pictographs

Take a picture, it'll last longer. That's what they say. I don't know how to break it to them but the only thing that lasts is the picture itself. But hey Link isn't complaining, he got a sweet pictograph box and he wants to take some pictographs!
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/3/32/TWW_Picto_Box.png
Say cheese.

So where can you get one of these? Well you could buy it... But that isn't the Hero's way! Go to Windfall Island, and inside Tingle's jail cell there will be an entrance to a maze that has the Picto box. Now that you have that, it's time to take some pictographs! Unfortuantly the pictographs will only be in black and white unless you complete the quest set by Lenzo. So go out now, and take pictures of everyone and everything! By handing in pictographs of people to the Nintendo Gallery (located on a small island near to the forest haven) Carlow is able to create figurines of the pictographed people, which is basically the amish's nightmare come true.
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/d/d7/Tingle_Figurine.png
...

On a related note, it's funny that Tingle has been put in jail for supposedly stealing the picto box when previously he has had a bad insident involving a picto box, his father, and his fairy boy aspirations.

Challenges:
- Get the normal picto box
- Get the deluxe picto box
- Get every figurine in the Nintendo gallery!

38. Catch Some Bugs

Saving the Princess? Pashaw. Catch bugs! Bugs are delightful, I mean, when has a bug last robbed you? Never, that's when, because it's the stupid Like-Likes pretending to be rupees that rob you. They're too organised!

So, firstly you'll need a net if you want to be professional about it, though you can just pick any grounded bugs up and put into a bottle or what have you. Nets can be bought from beedle and upgraded by Gondo.

So now you've caught yourself some bugs, some are golden, some are not. Now what? Here's what:

http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/2/2c/Goldenbugs.png
Give the golden bugs to Agitha in Hyrule Castle Town so they can go to the ball. (Probably best not to question it, she's rich she can do what she wants) Give enough bugs to her and you can claim yourself wallet expansions. Score! Here's a list of where to find them. (Twilight Princess)

Make better potions with them! If the sound of drinking a suspicious red liquid that somehow makes you feel better isn't attractive enough for you, how about putting crushed bugs into it! Mmm, delicious! Speak to Bertie in the bazaar to get your potions more potion-y.
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/1/1f/StritchSS.png
'Sup.
Or you can sell it for profits with Strich at night. Strich also owns his own island called Bug Rock and you can catch bugs for recreational use... haha I'm kidding who catches bugs because they want to? You win rupees!

Challenges:
- Catch all 24 golden bugs
- Infuse 2 potions with bugs
- Win the "Bug Wrangler" level on Bug Rock

Friday, 24 August 2012

37. Thank the Postal Services

Who works day and night, bringing you the mail you deserve? Who gets chased by dogs and wears a funny hat? Who has awesome music accompanying them wherever they go? The Postman!
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/1/16/Postman.png
If you want to help out then there's a temporary position as an assistant postman at the Island Postal Service, located on Dragon Roost Keep. Unfortuantly you won't be able to go across the world handing total strangers their mail, instead you have to file the different letters but at least you're getting paid for it! (Wind Waker)
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/4/4f/Letters.jpg
The Hyrule Post Office is hard at work, so give them thanks by buying the Swordsman Newsletter! There's eight of them, each at 200 rupees. This may sound steep, but they do hard work I mean, get in the postman's way outside and he will just jump over you! He has no time to waste! (Minish Cap)

Challenges:
- Get 20 letters posted in under 25 seconds
- Guess 10 seconds exactly right and win a Piece of Heart
- Find the Twilight Princess Postman in at least 3 different places

Thursday, 23 August 2012

36. Go Exploring!

What are you wearing slippers for? You aren't going anywhere in those! Get on your iron boots, waddle out of your home and get ready for adventures!

There isn't really anything to explain in this except load up a game, and go to that place you never really checked out before - here are a couple of examples:

Have you explored the Zora's Fountain in Ocarina of Time?
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/b/b7/Zfountain.jpg
What do those tracks in the canyons of Hyrule Field mean in Twilight Princess?
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/0/0e/North_Hyrule_Field.jpg
Challenge:
- Find something collectable in a place you have either forgotton about or haven't explored before

Learn About the Weapons - Hookshot

http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/2/27/Hookshot_TWW.png

In the Zelda games, the Hookshot is used most commonly to grapple onto far away objects so that Link can reach previously inaccessible areas. In addition, the Hookshot has been used as a replacement for the Boomerang by allowing Link to grab far away objects and attack enemies. In most cases, attacking an enemy with the Hookshot will only stun them, but some weaker enemies will die when hit with the Hookshot.

Over the years, the Hookshot has been redesigned many times, but the concept remains the same. However, a few games in the series have replaced the Hookshot with other similar items. Oracle of Ages replaces the Hookshot with the Switch Hook, and The Wind Waker includes the Hookshot but also gives Link a Grappling Hook. The Switch Hook has never made a second appearance, but the latest Zelda game, Twilight Princess, has chosen to replace both the Hookshot and the Grappling Hook with a single, new item called the Clawshot. Sometimes, the Hookshot is also upgraded into the Longshot.
An interesting note is that many versions of the Hookshot and its variations are found in water dungeons. One of the few exceptions is the version found in the Wind Temple in The Wind Waker.

Know Your Enemy - Stalchild

http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/9/96/Stalchild.png
The Stalchildren, also known as Stalkin, are skeletal nocturnal enemies that rise from the earth immediately after sunset in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, and in dungeons in Twilight Princess. These beings commonly group in packs of two, though not always. If Link destroys enough of them in one night, a larger one will pop out; if it is defeated, it will give a larger Rupee reward than the others. If two of these larger ones are defeated before dawn, an even larger one will appear.

Strategy: As they are not very strong, simply attack them with your sword.

35. Listen to Some Music

So you've learned how to play an instrument to bring down thunder and lightning inside a windmill, maybe it's time to take a break from playing and instead just sit back, close your eyes and listen to the lovely sounds of the Legend of Zelda:
Sounds good right? That's just a small selection of songs, post your favourites in the comments below and enjoy!

34. Enjoy The Nightlife

Now the party don't stop until someone is thrown in jail, so don't go to sleep just yet. But if you are prone to falling asleep, try and get yourself this terrifying piece of equipment - The All-Night Mask:
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/d/d5/MM_AllNightMask.png
You're not getting to sleep with this on... and neither will the people who see you in this!
Alright, so you're up past your bedtime, where should you go? Well head on over to the castle town first, that's where everything happens, though be careful crossing Hyrule Field at night as it's party time for the Stalchildren, and they don't like you. If you don't want them hanging around, wear the Bunny Hood to send them back, I'm talking downtown!
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/7/7d/Stalkin.png
Truly the hard rockers of Hyrule

Now that you're in the castle town, it's time to check out the nightlife, go to Telma's bar and grab a cocktail or go on a tour of the sewers just because! Or if you'd like, head over to Kakariko Village to go on Dampé's Heart-Pounding Grave-Digging Tour! Guaranteed to give you a scare! or at least some rupees, anyhow.
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/f/ff/Dampe.png
Poe's can only be found at night, so it's a perfect opportunity to go on a Ghost Hunt!

Challenges:
- Beat Dampé in a race
- Capture 10 poes/poes souls

33. Find out Some Secrets

The Legend of Zelda series has some of the biggest secrets in gaming, don't believe me? Chris Houlihan. Does it ring a bell? It shouldn't, unless you've seen it in an article about huge gaming secrets as Houlihan's Room took around 10 years to be found!
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/1/15/Cave-075.png
"My name is Chris Houlihan. This is my top secret room. Keep it between us, okay?"
By moving data around in Ocarina of Time, you can find the Arwing, that legendary flying monster from the seri- wait. As a beta test for the flight pattern of Volvagia, the arwing will attack like a normal flying monster but it can shoot laser beams pow pow!
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/d/d3/Awring_oot.jpg
TRAH A SUMMERSALT
And there's not to mention all the secret caves in the original game, that you get money for finding it (or fined for breaking the door)! Here's an official video from Nintendo which goes through a selection of them:

32. Train in Swordfighting

Your sword is looking a bit rusty there, you might want to sharpen it up a bit. You know how to do that right? YOU USE IT. That's how. You're scared of using it? Don't worry, I know some guys who will help you out so head over there right now!

Skyloft's Eagus is the Academy's master swordsman, with a sparring hall filled with logs for the cutting. Head in there and practice each angle of slicing and the infamous spin attack! (Skyward Sword)

http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/c/cd/Eagus.png
That is the face of a serious swordsman, who really wants some pumpkin soup.

The Blade Brothers are more than willing to teach you the tiger scroll techniques, especially as they each strive to be the best swordsman in the land, go find them now! (Minish Cap)
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/6/68/Blade_Brothers_Figurine.gif
Hey, you remember Link from ocarina of time right? The cute little fairy boy from Kokiri forest?

http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/5/53/Young_Link.png
Well he grew up a bit...

http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/6/63/Hero%27s_Shade.png
Yeah, so Link from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask was filled with so much regret of not passing on his teachings he became... this guy. Still, it helps Link from Twilight Princess learn some new moves so all is not lost.

Now that you've got your sword skills up its time to earn some prizes for you hard work! Get on your Loftwing and fly over to Bamboo Island to play Clean Cut! (Skyward Sword)
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/6/64/BambooIslandSS.png
Challenges:
- Have a drink of pumpkin soup with Eagus, then train on each piece of equipment
- Learn all 8 tiger scroll techniques
- Get taught from Ocarina of Time's Link
- Get over 28 cuts in Clean Cut

Saturday, 18 August 2012

31. 100% Complete a Game

Now, I'm sure everyone here has at least completed a Legend of Zelda game, but now is the time to step it up. I'm talking full hearts, all masks, all poes. Gold skulltula and what have you.
Why bother? WHY BOTH- Listen. Playing through the game and only completing the story is like scratching the surface of the game (though scratching the surface is pretty much all of it, unless you're playing Majora's Mask which is mainly side quests woop!), but still, there's a lot more depth to the game in terms of exploring and helping characters and you should definitely try to complete at least one game fully, even only so you can say you've done it!

I think the easiest game to 100% complete is Skyward Sword as you get an easy way to find the stuff you're missing later on, so try it on that if you don't want to spend too long on this challenge. Below will be a selection of links that will guide you in collecting different things:

http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/e/e1/Heart_container_SS.png
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/c/c6/MM_GoldSkulltula1.png
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/f/f5/Twilightbigpoe.png
http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/2/2c/Goldenbugs.png

Know Your Enemy - ReDead

 http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/c/c8/Redead_OoT.png
Before they are even seen, ReDeads make their presence known with low-pitched moans. They normally stand still or sit in the fetal position until Link approaches, at which they will rise and slowly shuffle towards him. When they get close enough, they will paralyze Link with a bone-chilling scream, jump onto his back, and bite his head and neck repeatedly. ReDeads are quite slow, both in walking and recovering from an attack, making them fairly easy to slay. In addition, when a ReDead is slain, any other ReDeads in the area walk towards and crouch beside the fallen ReDead until its body fades away.

Strategy: ReDeads are blind in most of the games, so either walk slowly past them or use the Sun's song to stun them, allowing you to attack without fear of being paralysed.

30. Marathon Run a Game

If you have the resolve of a true Hero, then you should try to complete a Legend of Zelda game... In one sitting! Now this may sound like an insane challenge (or it may not, depending on who you are) but it is incredibly rewarding (somehow) to play straight through a game - trust me, me and my friends played straight through Twilight Princess in 19 hours in 30 minute turns. This time around we have decided to play straight through Skyward Sword which is going to be a weird one as only two of us have actually completed it! So check back below for any videos or pictures we take as hopefully we will have an hourly update showing where we are in the game.

Challenges:
- Do a marathon of a game
- Do a 100% run of a game!

Thursday, 16 August 2012
