Hyrule is notorious for its ghosts, or poes as they are known, and there are big rewards for catching them!
In ocarina of time, you can find poes dotted around Hyrule at night, shoot them down with arrows and catch it in a bottle. You can either sell a poe or drink it which well heal or hurt you. Sell it to the Poe collector, a mysterious character who may have been the former town gaurd who let you smash pots as a child (I thought it was obvious it was him but apparently it is not confirmed, go figure)
There are ten big poes around Hyrule field, selling a big poe will get you 50 rupees and 100 points. Get 1000 points and you've got yourself a fancy new bottle, which you can now use to catch more poes!
In Twilight Princess, the poes have got a bit of a makeover and do look pretty creepy. The only way to 'capture' a poe is in wolf form, attack them with wolf sense on until the fall to the floor, then do the finishing blow to take the soul. There are 60 poes and if you collect it all, going to Jovani's house in Hyrule city (it's the one surrounded by cats) will get you 200 rupees,
each time you visit - unlimited money win!
